Description

In September 1969, Heinrich J. J. Hofmann and Clyde Minor began working together fabricating ornamental and balcony railings out of a two-car garage. Soon after, the business outgrew the garage and relocated to an empty building in Waterford, Wisconsin. In 1972, Mr. Hofmann purchased Mr. Minor's entire share of the business and incorporated as Hein Manufacturing Corp. As the business continued to grow, so did the need for a larger shop. For this reason, in 1974 Mr. Hofmann built the company's current 28,000 square foot plant on West Lincoln Avenue in New Berlin, Wisconsin. By 1983, the company had expanded its customized steel products to include ladders, stairs, fire escapes and light structural steel. With the broadened area of expertise came the need for a descriptive company name. As a result, Mr. Hofmann formed New Berlin Ornamental Iron & Specialty Company Corp. Years later, that company's name was changed to Superior Structural Corporation as a result of its successful growth and diversification. Since 1972, the company has been privately owned and operated by the Hofmann family. In 1993, Mr. Hofmann passed away leaving it to his wife, Renate E. Hofmann, and their three children. Today, Superior Structural Corporation is well known for its efforts to provide building structures with high-grade steel for the industrial, commercial, academic, not-for-profit, and government sectors. Superior Structural Corporation is dedicated to providing exception value, by identifying an fulfilling our customers' diverse requirements for structural steel and miscellaneous metals. Our determination to achieve success is governed by a devotion to the principles of honesty, integrity, total quality management, and the ethical treatment of our customers and co-workers, while returning a fair profit to our company.

For the second year in a row, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) nominated Superior Structural Corporation for the prestigious Marketplace 2017 Business Excellence Award.  Choosing a winner and runner-ups in each category is a very thorough process.  Based on the nominee's answers to in-depth questions, the judging panel chooses the Top 3 Finalists in each category - Outstanding Small Business, Outstanding Large Business, and Rising Star.  On December 14, 2017, the Potawatomi Hotel and Conference Center in Milwaukee was the venue for the WEDC awards presentation.  Each year, it is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Governor's Conference on Minority Business Development.  The WEDC presented to Renate Hofmann, owner of Superior Structural, the First Runner-Up Award in the "Outstanding Small Business - WBE" category.

To modernize Superior Structural Corporation's equipment and improve fabrication efficiencies, the company purchased a new Daito CRII1040 Plasma Coping Robot with Hypertherm in October 2018.  Superior Structural Corporation anticipates the Daito CRII1040 Robot to be fully operational by Spring 2019.  Additionally, the company is leasing a Knuth Plasma Jet System with Hypertherm MicroEDGE.  The Knuth Plasma Jet has greatly improved the fabrication of structural steel parts.
