Sales Engineer

Sales Engineer Summary The Sales Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining relationships to increase sales and profitability with new and existing customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. Under the direct supervision of the Business Development Manager, perform the following essential functions: 1) Application Development – Meet with customers to develop electronic solutions for their applications. Review all requirements including technical specifications, regulatory requirements, project timing and customer’s expectations. Work with Marlin Engineering to identify practical, cost-effective solutions. 2) Quoting/Estimating – Prepare and follow up on quotations for customers in a timely manner. Identify materials required, obtain component pricing and tooling charges, determine engineering and manufacturing labor hours, and prepare cost and price estimates for quoted product. Prepare proposals and written quotations for presentation to customers. 3) Sales Development – Make sales contacts via phone, email, and travel to new and existing customers to prospect, qualify and present Marlin products and services. Assist the Marketing and Sales departments with identifying product and market opportunities. Travel as required (up to 50% of the time) to develop sales opportunities. Drive entire sales process from initial customer engagement through customer purchase order. 4) Manage Accounts – Manage and grow a list of existing Marlin accounts by implementing sales strategies that leverage Marlin competencies in the core markets. Document sales activity in Marlin CRM system to track sales program progress at each account. Participate in obtaining and building sales forecast data as well as tracking progress on active quotes and orders. 5) Project Management –Act as a customer advocate to help ensure their expectations are met. Participate in project gate meetings, assisting the lead engineer with customer communication. Assist Production department with obtaining and entering sales order information. a) Supplier Relationships - Work with vendors to obtain information about purchased part specifications, operation, availability and pricing. b) Marlin Standards and Procedures - Assist in the planning, implementation and maintenance of Marketing and Applications department procedures, databases, and software tools. Adhere to established procedures. c) Assistance To Others - Provide assistance to other Marlin personnel as required. d) Trade and Industry Knowledge - Keep abreast and well informed of new developments in the markets that Marlin serves, as well as other industries where sales opportunities and growth may exist, through involvement with customers, vendors, educational institutions, professional societies, trade shows, seminars, and perusal of publications. e) Supervision - May supervise other personnel in the execution of projects. Education / Experience / Knowledge • BS degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical) • Minimum 3 years’ experience in applications/sales, preferably of electronic controls and systems for outdoor equipment applications and/or power conversion applications. • Excellent communication (written, verbal, presentation) and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated ability to identify, qualify, and close key prospect accounts. • Reasonable understanding of analog and digital circuits and software preferred. • Reasonable knowledge and skill in the use of personal computer application software and operating environments. • Reasonable knowledge of the manufacturing process of printed circuit boards and assemblies. • Ability to make sales calls on new and existing accounts, located in various states and outside the USA. If driving, a valid driver’s license and insurance is necessary. 2. Intellectual • Detail-oriented - Rigorous attention to detail; meticulous and accurate.
